Woman Claims Jeweler Said Kay Jewelers Ring Is Fake, Sparking Online Debate

A TikToker claims that a jeweler told her that a promise she received from Kay Jewelers was fake. This sparked a debate online about the plausibility of the situation.

The TikTok captioned “Was I bamboozled,”It has been viewed over 2.1 million times, liked more than 140,000 times, and shared more than 140,000 times since February 7. The user uploaded a short 11 second clip. @justpearlythingsPearl Davis, also known as Pearl, began with the TikToker, holding the promise ring, which appeared to be made from diamonds, and a diamond bracelet.

“I went to sell the promise ring my ex bought me, and the jeweler told me it was fake,”The words are spoken and overlayed on screen. “I went with him to Kay when I got it, so I’m confused, someone explain.”

The video showed the woman holding pieces of jewelry in her hands as she appeared to sit in a car. Before the video cut, she took a close-up shot at the ring.

According to a Buzzfeed report from 2016, some women claimed Kay Jewelers changed their diamonds for other ones. One woman claimed that her diamond was replaced by a moissanite, while another claimed that her ring was actually swapped for different diamonds. In a comment, TikToker stated that her ex spent $1500 for the bracelet and the ring.

In Video updatedThe TikToker revealed that even though everyone was talking, TikToker said that. “mad s**t about Kay,”After the user provided their information, a woman reached out and said she found the purchase.

It turned out that both the bracelet as well as the ring are real diamonds. According to the TikToker’s correspondence, the bracelet weighs 1/4 carat and has round-cut diamonds. It was purchased for $524.99.

The ring, which was bought the same day, has a 1/5 total carat and 10k gold weight. This equates to $499.99 in price. The salesperson stated that she believed the person who tested it for diamonds didn’t use it correctly. The TikToker learned that she could trade the diamond in exchange for something else.

Some TikTokers admitted that they have been in similar situations before. Others debated the authenticity of the ring.

One viewer had a scenario to explain what happened. “Probably because he had it fitted for a gemstone first, then probably was going to put in a diamond after the marriage,”They said.

Another TikToker claimed they experienced the same thing as the creator of this video. They were at Kay when Kay bought their ring. “Went to sell it, and was told it was worth maybe $50,”They were.

TikToker claimed that they used to work at a place that bought gold and silver. “So many people would come in with stuff from Kay. Always junk, and they’d be so shook.”

Another viewer stated that they went through the exact same thing when trying to sell jewelry. “It’s because they’re man-made diamonds,”They added.

A TikTok user believes that pawn shops accept rings similar to the one in this video. “based on how much gold is in it, so it’s probably sterling silver with diamonds.”

Kay was the subject of some previous allegations. “They change out stones when you take it in to size or clean it,”Someone said.

Newsweek reached out @justpearlythings, Signet Jewelers, and Kay Jewelers’ parent company for comment, but did not receive a response in time for publication.
