UnchartedTom Holland, the star of Uncharted, has his face superimposed onto an action figure from The Games. Uncharted is an adaptation from the video game series. Holland stars alongside Mark Wahlberg, Antonio Banderas, and Antonio Banderas. The film has grossed more than $235million at the box office. According to Sony Pictures, it will be the first film in a franchise. The chairman of Sony Pictures described it as such.
Uncharted is the story of Nathan Drake (Holland), a young thief who sets out to find the magellan treasure. He is joined by Victor Sullivan (Wahlberg). The film was stalled in development hell since 2008 and was finally able to begin production in 2020 under Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer. Despite the box office success, Uncharted has received mixed reviews from critics with many citing its dated story and weak writing.

Fan response to Uncharted has been strong, with many others making art and doing cosplay based on the film’s design. Uncharted also includes some dangling plot threads that can fuel the sequel, such as characters from the games that are hinted at but don’t appear in a major capacity, such as Drake’s brother Sam, and another love interest, Elena. Fleischer himself has indicated his desire to make a sequel, in particular wanting to recreate a car chase sequence from Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End in live-action.
Despite audience support, it’s questionable whether Uncharted will improve with a larger franchise. The games had the benefit of developing graphics technology and polishing game mechanics to enhance their scope and narratives, something Uncharted the film doesn’t have on a non-interactive medium. Many have cited Uncharted the movie as derivative of past action films due to this fact, with the game’s exciting shooting and puzzle elements helping it get past the formula of its stories. Yet, it is clear that UnchartedHolland, the star of the film, is ready for another film that could propel the franchise to new heights.
