Suspect in critical condition after officer-involved shooting in Fashion Fair mall parking lot, police say

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) — Police confirmed Wednesday that a person had been shot in the parking lot of Fashion Fair mallFresno.

Fresno Police reports that officers from the HEAT team (Help Eliminate Automotive Theft), tracked a stolen Range Rover into the Fashion Fair parking lot. When the officers approached the suspects, they attempted to flee, and according to investigators, the suspect’s vehicle struck other vehicles in the parking lot.

According to police, the officers felt threatened and fired at their vehicle.

Both suspects were taken by police to a local hospital. Police report that the driver was taken for gunshot wounds while the passenger was taken for an unrelated medical condition. The driver’s condition is considered critical. The passenger’s condition is reported to be stable.

Initial investigations by police revealed that a weapon was found in the vehicle.

Both suspects are reportedly in their 20s.

Fresno Police is leading the investigation into officer-involved shooting.

Deputies have advised that the parking lot next to Forever 21 will remain closed for the majority of the afternoon. The public is asked not to use the area.
