New York Fashion Week is back in person for the very first time since the pandemic.
Some designers show collections in person, while others prefer livestreaming.
Houston designerOn Sunday, Cesar Galindo will be presenting his spring 2022 collection in Times Square. His show will feature a new model — Taylor Ayanna Crawford, a Howard University student and the daughter Grammy-winning gospel singer Yolanda Adams, also from Houston.
“I met Yolanda via my friend Kevin Jeffries at the debut of Fashion Houston Wortham Theater, where I opened the show,” Galindo said. “She was a VIP guest and Taylor was a beautiful young girl. It all comes in circles and now she is a beautiful young lady that will make her New York Fashion Week runway debut with me. Life is magical.”

Here’s what Galindo had to say about life during the pandemic and the return of NYFW.
How has your life changed during the pandemic?
Life is back in first gear, slow but steady. I’ve had time to re-evaluate what’s important and where I’m going. The universe has spoken. We need to slow down. My wish is that we don’t go back to full throttle so fast and that we don’t forget so fast. I haven’t stop working and technology helped with all of that. I worked on a variety of creative projects for the corporate sector and continue to work with Kimora Lee Simmons. I’m excited about the retail launch of BABY PHAT, which I worked really hard on. At the same time I decided to return my namesake brand CESAR GALINDO collection, and I’m thrilled to do a runway showfor the people living in Times Square.
What has the pandemic had to do with your business?
All retail outlets, large and small, have been affected by the impact. Everyone has been affected and many didn’t make it. It is important to reduce stress and use less capsules.
What is your season’s theme/inspiration?
Pop, color, joy, bliss. We need a break in the darkness so the collection is sexy, a little reason for us to get out of our PJs.
What do you want people feel when they see your pieces of art?
They should see my happiness. Feel joy and smile. Feel good and excited to be alive.
What’s next for you?
Fred Segal in Hamptons picked me up. This is an amazing opportunity for me to enter the retail business. I am currently working on BABY PHAT Summer 2022.
