CLEVELAND — A 17-year-old girl has died two weeks after being shot on Cleveland’s south side in an incident the suspect claims was accidental.

According to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office Destiny V. Woodall, she died Tuesday at MetroHealth Medical Center. Police say she sustained a gunshot to the chest while in a residence on the 1800 block, Buhrer Avenue.

Officers found a tampering in the house. “trail of blood”Before finding a 21-year old man in the basement, The victim had been shot in his hand and the man claimed he was the victim’s boyfriend. He also claimed that he had accidentally shot Woodall.

After being treated for his injuries the man was taken into custody. His name is still unknown and investigators are yet to reveal the charges against him.

Detectives in homicide are currently investigating the matter and anyone with any information is asked to call either Cleveland police at (216), 623-5464 (or Cuyahoga County CrimeStoppers (216) 252-7463). Tipsters could be eligible to receive a cash reward of up $5,000
