Summer 2021 is upon us but, with the many cinemas closed in many countries around the world and the future still uncertain, Netflix exceeds all expectations and continues to ‘churn out’ success after success. But what are the news coming out? Well, it goes from a thriller psychological with Amy Adams is Julianne Moore, to a mini-series about the life and career of a fashion icon, at the return of two programs that, with their first season, saved us after a few nights of binge watching during lockdown. Here are five new Netflix releases to add to yours immediately watch list.

A twisted horror movie directed by Joe Wright starring Amy Adams, who plays a child psychologist in crisis and suffering from agoraphobia who spends her days spying on her neighbors from the window of her New York apartment. When he finally makes a new friend (Julianne Moore), she is attacked and she unwittingly witnesses the scene. His protected existence will never be the same again. The supporting cast (Gary Oldman, Anthony Mackie, Brian Tyree Henry and Jennifer Jason Leigh) is extraordinary and the strong sense of claustrophobia is a feeling we know all too well these days.

Delightful and quietly revolutionary, the first season of the teen comedy by Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher on Devi, an Indian-American teenager, has conquered the whole world. Now the magnetic protagonist, played by Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, returns for the second season with a few additions: from Megan Suri, a classmate, to Common, the new potential flame of Devi’s mother (Poorna Jagannathan). It is worth watching even just for the jokes that will make you laugh and for all the shattered stereotypes.

5. Lupine (release scheduled for summer 2021)

If you were stunned by the pending ending that closed the first part of this original thriller created by George Kay, you can console yourself knowing that the second season is on the way. The charismatic Omar Sy will follow as Assane, a thief determined to avenge the death of his father but whose son (Etan Simon) has just been kidnapped by his enemies. There will undoubtedly be more shocking revelations, tense impasses, elaborate disguises and those little tricks that made previous episodes so compelling.

And while we wait for the summer releases …
