There fashion jeans it has never been so much in the spotlight as it is right now. For the spring summer 2021 Prada is Miu Miu they chose denim sustainable to take a new significant step towards a more respectful system for the planet, reinventing the most famous blue fabric of all in two collections with a green soul.
Part of the line Prada May Issue, the jeans fashion capsule of the brand co-directed by Miuccia Prada e Raf Simons is made in 100% organic cotton GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified. L’Organic Denim Washed Prada comes from organic farming with low environmental impact, free of pesticides and fertilizers. Furthermore, to maintain a high level of sustainability, the dyeing of this denim is carried out using the ‘Acquasave’ system, a type of dyeing where water consumption is well below the standards, thus allowing a saving of 10 liters of water per linear meter of fabric. Finally, the ECO 4 finishing process, carried out using natural products, allows further savings in water consumption, a reduction in washing time and improves the EIM score (Environmental Impact Measurement). The collection includes ready-to-wear garments with essential lines inspired by workwear including: a triangle bra top, a high-waisted baggy jeans, an oversized shirt, a knee-length T-shirt dress and an all-in jumpsuit with short sleeves and hot pants. All the pieces of the jeans capsule are characterized by a triangular metal plate embossed with the Prada logo.
Announced last December, the capsule collection Upcycled by Miu Miu in collaboration with Levi’s continues to support a culture based on sustainability, infusing new life to denim garments already used and loved in the past. The Miu Miu creative office has reinterpreted a selection of classic jeans garments through theunconventional and deliberately playful aesthetics of the maison. The fashion collection for spring summer 2021 is worn by the muses of the brand: the actress Emma Corrin and the models Lila Moss is Georgia Palmer, portrayed in the photos of Johnny Dufort. The project includes men’s 501 jeans and trucker jackets, all of them vintage original Made in USA from the 80s and 90s. These emblematic pieces, symbol of youth rebellion, are adapted and customized by the maison in a game of contrasts between masculine and feminine. The original denim glows with embroidery of crystals, pearls and flowers, and is renewed with the addition of large white lace collars, balloon sleeves in duchesse, or applications in Art Deco-inspired inlayed leather. The collection will be available online on miumiu.com and, from May 24, 2021, in 18 Miu Miu boutiques around the world.

In addition to Prada and Miu Miu, recently, other Made in Italy luxury houses presented capsule collections and product lines focused on jeans fashion. Valentino collaborated with Levi’s for the spring summer 2021 collection, reinventing the 517 denim model, symbol of the roaring 70s. Donatella Versace’s maison presented the new collection Versace Jeans Couture through the campaign of the Berlin photographer Davit Giorgadze, a celebration of the timeless spirit of denim and its simplicity and versatility.
