Which models were presenters of the Sanremo Festival for at least one night?
Almost finished countdown. An eve, immersed in the pandemic emergency, which will make this edition even more special. The 71st Sanremo Festival (March 2-6) is about to begin and, as per tradition, will celebrate Italian music with female beauty. Just like last year, the artistic director – as well as presenter – Amadeus, as well as Fiorello (and regular guests Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Achille Lauro), will be joined by several co-hosts who will change every evening. Also in this edition – as happened last year with Francesca Sofia Novello – in the list of names, there will be a splendid model: Vittoria Ceretti. The girl from Brescia, born in 1998, face Chanel, will be the queen of the Ariston Theater in the third evening (March 4).
The Sanremo Festival since 1951, in 70 years of history, it has always exalted the emotion of the song with the charm of fashion. In addition to appearance – and therefore to the clothes and dresses of presenters, competing artists and guests – one of the keys to the success of the evenings is represented by those who walked the most famous catwalks or who have become an image, muse or icon of eras and brands : the models.
Before Ceretti there were many women who lit up the Sanremo stage, gracefully flanking the conductor. Starting half a century ago, 1971, when he introduced the Tuscan actress Elsa Martinelli who began her career as a model and was discovered by the high fashion designer Vincenzo Ferdinandi. After Anna Maria Rizzoli (1979), in 1983 it was the turn of Isabel Russinova (aka Maria Isabella Cociani, she debuted as a model in Milan for the Caremoli agency and also for Vogue Italia and Harper’s Bazaar).
Almost a decade later, in 1992 on the stage of the Ariston landed a statuesque beauty like Brigitte Nielsen, the symbolic face of the 80s woman (androgynous, determined and sensual) who in her career paraded for great Gianni Versace, Giorgio Armani is Gianfranco Ferré. Two years later, in 1994, together with Pippo Baudo and Anna Oxa, he presented Cinnamon, the French model-dancer who bewitched Italy thanks to the famous spot of Morositas gummy candies. After that success he founded (it was 1985) Kundalia, the first Italian fashion, art and black culture agency.
From the second half of the 90s, fashion invades the Festival. Starting with the Argentine supermodel Valeria Mazza. Blonde, green eyes, it was above all she (strongly desired by Pippo Baudo) who enchanted the public in the 1996 edition thanks to the beauty that in her career she showed on the catwalk for names like Valentino, Roberto Cavalli, Laura Biagiotti, Christian Dior, Issey Miyake, Thierry Mugler, Krizia, Victoria’s Secret, Carolina Herrera. In 1998 here is the Czech supermodel Eva Herzigova, which turned heads not only to co-host Raimondo Vianello, but also to all Italians. International cover face (from Vogue to Elle, from Harper’s Bazaar to Glamor and many others) Herzigova has walked the catwalks of all the biggest names in international fashion.
In 1999 the French supermodel arrived in Sanremo Laetitia Casta, the perfect representative of sensuality, for the eyes (beautiful) and for the ears (her French accent, while she spoke Italian, remained in our hearts). That same year she was made immortal thanks to the signed suit of buds and flowers Yves Saint Laurent. In the following years, covers, advertisements (she is the official testimonial of L’Oréal), video clips (in I love you by Rihanna, 2010) and films (The Faithful Man, 2019, with current husband Louis Garrel). La Casta, a symbol of authentic and natural beauty, returned to the Festival in 2014 as a guest, once again led by the one who presented it with her 15 years earlier, Fabio Fazio.
The new millennium in Sanremo began earlier (2000) with the absolute refinement of the Spanish model Ines Sastre (Lancôme testimonial), then (2001) with the irrepressible Australian Megan Gale (in Italy it became famous with the Omnitel commercial). After the meteor Federica Felini (2005), in 2007 the Swiss showgirl landed at the Ariston Michelle Hunziker who began her prolific career as a model for Giorgio Armani, Rocco Barocco and The Pearl. Blonde, beautiful, ironic, Michelle then returned to lead the Festival in 2018: time never seems to have passed.
A year later, 2013, here – even if as a guest only for an episode – the Israeli model Bar Rafaeli (her “descent” from the mythical stairs is enchanting) and, above all, the international supermodel Bianca Balti, highly anticipated guest for the final. The iconic testimonial of Dolce & Gabbana does not remember that experience positively (according to him, in the Sanremo environment there was “too much pressure“), But he gave us funny and unforgettable moments (like his” almost “fall). More recent were the attendances of two other foreign models and actresses: the Spanish one Rocío Muñoz Morales (2014) and the Romanian Madalina Ghenea. If the Sanremo Festival turns into a success every time, the merit, every time, is also theirs: it is the models who make the music even more beautiful.
