Sneakers 2021: New Balance celebrates 20 years of 991 Made in Uk with a special pack dedicated to the anniversary
When in 2007 Steve Jobs at Macworld in San Francisco it changed history presenting the first iPhone to the public, on his feet he wore a pair of New Balance 991. This anecdote would be enough to rightly count among the most iconic sneakers of the 21st century the cult shoe from the 99x series made in New Balance’s UK factory in Flimby, Cumbria.
Launched on the market in 2001 as the predecessor of the 990v2 sneakers, the 991 model was the progenitor of the 99x series, as well as the first to have an ABZORB insert in the forefoot and under the heel thanks to a new and improved midsole design. In 2021 the 991 turns twenty: for several generations, the silhouette represents an icon by definition as well as the smart choice of artists and creatives: a choice that is always up-to-date, thanks also to a twenty-year catalog which always guarantees an aesthetic à la page.
To celebrate the important anniversary of the twentieth anniversary of the 991, the Boston brand launches a special model in a palette Moonbeam with gray inserts for men and women. M991ANI and W991ANI will be available at select retailers around the world – and on major online platforms – starting with February 26, 2021. And it is only the beginning of the celebrations dedicated to the 991’s birthday: the collection, in fact, will see further colors coming out for the whole anniversary year. 20 years of an icon, 20 years of 991.
