Nicole Kidman, to the red carpet of the Golden Globes 2021, she was definitely the most beautiful, the most elegant, the only timeless diva capable of stealing the show even live Zoom from the sofa at home, from where she took part at the ceremony with the whole family, close to her husband Keith Urban and daughters Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret. The Oscar-nominated actress (her fifteenth in her 53-year career) for her brilliant performance in the miniseries The Undoing, directed by Susanne Bier, this time does not win the statuette – conquered by Anya Taylor-Joy -, but earned the podium as a “best dressed star” thanks to the custom made look Louis Vuitton made especially for her by the creative director of the maison Nicolas Ghesquière.

For the great virtual event, his trusty stylist, Julia von Boehm, wanted to focus on a sophisticated style, on a classic cut pervaded with glamor perfectly in line with the refined aesthetic of the star, but somehow also close to the class and exquisite taste of Grace Fraser, the psychotherapist of the New York upper class protagonist of the HBO series. A first idea, shared with Ghesquière, was then realized thanks to the inspiration of the French designer, who had already designed the dress for the wedding with Urban in 2006 for Kidman__.__ The creation of the dress, however, was not easy. Because of the pandemic no fitting was possible, and the process that led to the final result was long, full of video calls and messages on WhatsApp, with the Parisian ateliers of Louis Vuitton in constant contact with von Boehm.

But full synergy, the masterpiece slowly came to life: a wool cady dress, with a pleated silk georgette skirt, decorated with braids embroidered with beads and gold and silver crystals. To get a more precise idea of the complex making-of phase, just think that only 25 hours were needed to design the dress: the precise positioning of the shirts, in fact, is the result of various tests and as many sketches which, once the model was defined, were transformed into 425 hours of embroidery for the four braid motifs that run the entire length of the dress. In short, a design work that well tells a exceptional savoir-faire as well as the unique creativity of Ghesquière and the extraordinary experience and passion of the maison’s craftsmen.
