Fila turns 110 and celebrates with a collection in collaboration with Katie Grand presented at Milan Fashion Week 2021
It was the 1911 when a Coggiola, a small village in the Piedmont hills, i Fila brothers gave life to what is now recognized as one of the largest global players in international sportswear. Their story begins with underwear and fabrics, but the real revolution took place in 1972, when thanks to the guidance and visionary creativity of Enrico Frachey the brand expands widely in the world of sports. Starting with the launch of the collection White Line, the first to bring color to the tennis court, Fila becomes an indispensable choice for record-breaking athletes like Bjӧrn Borg, Alberto Tomba is Reinhold Messner, the mountaineer who climbed Mount Everest with a memorable total look signed by the maison. The British stylist’s long research process begins in the historic Fila headquarters in Biella: “I chose pieces from the archive to which I reacted immediately: I was surprised by how modern most of them are and this is mainly due to the fact that they have such an iconic logo and brand.“Reveals Katie Grand, and adds:”I started with the seven sports categories that Fila is known for – tennis, motocross, basketball, golf, swimming, mountain and aerobics – and included archival pieces in the various themes. Then we worked to make the fits more contemporary“. The result? There 110th Anniversary Collection: 36 looks fromvintage soul, declined in one emblematic palette that ranges between red, white and blue, distinguished by the mythical F-Box logo, which embodies the history, spirit and future of the first global sportswear brand born in Italy.
