Massimo Giorgetti tells Vogue about the new collection MSGM autumn winter 2021 presented with a fashion show – digital show on the occasion of the Milan Fashion Week. Giorgetti welcomes us in the Viale Piave showroom in Milan, for a preview of the collection a few days before the official presentation to the press.
“More than a collection, it is a project that comes from a song that Gea Politi, of Flash Art, made for theClub Tomorrow album by Sergio Tavelli and Andrea Ratti. The track is called Manifesto and it prompted me to imagine a new manifesto for the city of Milan. In 2017 I made a collection dedicated to the city, paying homage to the most “classic” Milan, with prints of the most famous places and bars; this year I wanted to do the exact opposite, tell the underground culture of the city.
The collection expresses the strongest and most strident aspect of MSGM. We have taken some of the elements of the Milan 2017 show and transported them to 2022. The craquelé nappa and vinyl are mixed with seasonal materials such as sequin fabrics, eco furs, coated denim.
The silhouettes of the looks are decisive and often with a nocturnal attitude. Trench coats with large belts and crackle-effect eco-leather suits are worn with python-print satin shirts or embroidered mesh sweaters. The trousers are worn with a lace turtleneck “MSGM CLUB”, while nylon bomber jackets are worn with reflective taffeta garments.
Holographic jersey and sequins illuminate dresses and tops, in a tone-on-tone look with eco-fur coats. Finally, latex and vinyl in a recycled version are used for outerwear, for mini dresses worn with platform boots, for trousers and pencil skirts worn under chenille or coated knitwear tops. The colors are strong and vibrant: cyclamen, “green screen” green, amethyst, fiery red, alternating with touches of absolute black and white.
“My favorite look is the one with the vinyl puffer jacket and the backless stretch chenille dress and the patent high boot.”, Giorgetti confesses.
Parallel to the collection are born two collaborations. «There is also a collaboration with Alessandro Calabrese, an artist from Milan who through the distortion of photographic film creates very modern and strong prints of flowers. We have reproduced his works on sweatshirts and T-shirts, but also as an all-over motif on fabrics and sequins for shirts and skirts ». In addition to the show’s soundtrack, the collaboration with Club Tomorrow comes to life in T-shirts, bomber jackets and sweatshirts, printed with the words of the Gea Politi poster ».
The collection will be presented through a show-show focused on the act of dressing as moment of expression of creativity, individuality and desire to return to experience the city.
«Together with Gea, who followed the whole project, we found 15 girls living in Milan – actresses, models and performers – international personalities who have chosen to live in the city right now. In some ways it is a message of hope to reaffirm that Milan is alive.
We will leave the girls free to choose their own look and build it in front of the camera of director Francesco Coppola. We will shoot the collection show at Manzoni Theater and it will be a sort of manifesto for the Milan of today and tomorrow ».
