The collection Moncler Genius spring summer 2021 of JW Anderson reinterprets the iconic Moncler silhouettes through a dreamy and ephemeral vision of the sea, in the name of adventure. Starting from the idea of the nomadic journey, the collection is inspired by a symbolic figure who dreams of an itinerant condition but with the full awareness that the only possible destination is the here and now.
“This collection speaks to my concept of optimism and adventure. I was inspired by the paintings I came across during the UK lockdown, of seascapes seen through a window. There was this feeling of adventure and travel; to head towards the horizon. “, he told us Jonathan Anderson.
Many details and textures in the collection are inspired by the marine style. “Britain is an island, so I think there’s a natural connection to boating in JW Anderson. After all, our distinctive logo is an anchor. “
The spring summer 2021 collection is the second that the British designer designs for Moncler Genius. «The collaboration felt like a continuous journey because I feel that the things we learned with the first collection influenced the second. In this sense I feel they are connected but, in general, I think that each collection is an adventure in itself.
Working with Moncler it was incredibly interesting to see their technical expertise, especially when it comes to puffer jackets. They’ve accomplished things I didn’t think would be possible with the duvet. ‘
To celebrate the launch of the collection, Moncler and JW Anderson inaugurate a multidisciplinary cultural program to amplify the idea of travel. Launching the first series of Moncler Genius podcasts on Spotify and partnering with the global streaming service MUBI, the activation traces a visual and auditory path guided by the conceptual fantasies of Jonathan Anderson.
The first podcast is a conversation between the designer and the artistic director of the Serpentine Galleries Hans Ulrich Obrist. “I’ve always been a fan of Hans. He has an incredible knowledge of both fashion and art and seemed like the perfect person for a discussion about the collection. I love talking to him. “says Anderson. The conversation is also printed in a limited edition zine, interspersed with a selection of images from the collection.
Finally, the selection of films on MUBI reaffirms the inspiration of the collection with a series of auteur short films dedicated to the theme of travel.
