The new MM6 Maison Margiela x Eastpak capsule for winter 2021 debuts at Milan Fashion Week
Reverse and remix. The new collection MM6 Maison Margiela autumn winter 2021 2022 focuses on overturning, on a change of perspective which allows us to see things differently, as well as to reconstruct them, transform them, in a sort of general rebirth which, if observed within the current historical moment, translates into a symbol of hope for the world. Taking inspiration from masters such as Erik Satie, Marcel Duchamp, John Cage, Andy Warhol, the brand abandons the canonical structures to focus on a total reset of the design.
L’art of deconstruction, which has always been an emblem of aesthetics Maison Margiela, thus returns not only in the most literal sense of the term, but also on a conceptual level, renewing the objective identity of a garment, once bound to universal conventions that now appear outdated, rewritten. IS all the other way around, from the jacquard sweater to the denim worn with visible stitching up to the clutch with double handle and upside down chain or T-shirts – upside down – on which the faces of three of the composers who are symbols of modern music, Sibelius, Satie and Ravel, stand out.
The show also coincides with the debut of the new collaboration with Eastpak, the latest chapter of Margiela’s intelligent – and by now consolidated – co-branding process which in the past involved brands such as Reebok is The North Face. All the classics of the iconic American brand parade on the catwalk, clearly transformed by the process of decomposition and reconstruction that affects the entire collection. Thus, the labels of backpacks, fanny packs and bags – the capsule consists of five models in three color variants – they are woven backwards, one on top of the other, to sanction the special partnership, which, we are sure, will be talked about a lot.
