Smart working, remote dating, virtual parties – we’ve spent almost a year ‘online’ and no wonder our skin looks very dull.
The newness of daily video calling is long gone, and as we accumulate hours of looking at ourselves in little squares during online meetings, we can’t help but wonder: what if vloggers were right from the start? Should we invest in a decent ring lamp after all? Even those who rarely wear makeup now let themselves be captivated by anything that promises glowing skin.
The timing couldn’t be more perfect. Let it be a supermodel to share her daily ritual of working from home:
“The ritual is ideal for those days when you have a meeting on Zoom and rolling out of bed in your pajamas is not the best thing.”
Karen Elson, we understand you perfectly!
Improve the mood through a perfect beauty routine for the webcam it has dual benefits. First of all, wearing a fantastic outfit in the morning, taking care of skin care and make-up, are all factors that contribute to psychophysical well-being. Secondly, making a makeover is a creative moment, as well as fun. Updating your beauty routine to see what works best for the webcam is something worth considering.
Furthermore, among the beauty editors of Vogue, there is a general belief that a little color on the cheeks and lips, and a touch of mascara to enlarge the eyes can really cheer you up. And let’s face it, we all need it right now.
Elson agrees. While busy shooting at her Nashville home – where she has spent the past 12 months producing music and writing her new book The Red Flame – he explains her beauty routine to get ready for Zoom, scattering all her beauty gear on the sofa, while the daylight converges from the webcam. “I have a teenage daughter who likes to steal my makeup,” he comments, as he searches for a specific powder that seems to be gone …
Even for people who use a minimal makeup, its base is an absolute guarantee to have a dazzling skin. A rose quartz roller immersed in water and ice? Of course yes! Massaging the face with a roller is believed to help reduce swelling and inflammation in any case, but Elson’s trick (soaking the roller in a nice glass of ice water) would help soothe and calm stressed skin, favoring circulation and lymphatic drainage and leaving the skin plumped and toned. A gentle massage can relieve tension on the forehead and along the jaw line, aiding in the absorption of oils and face creams. For extra hydration.
True, Elson is known for her ability to pull off the most daring make-up. Just take a look at his first cover, for example: an impressive shooting by Steven Meisel for the cover of Vogue Italy dated February 1997.
Yet when she works from home, she prefers simplicity and subtle makeup. Self-described as a “very pale red”, Elson is full of gimmicks and tips for a natural and luminous look. Elson’s makeup techniques are simple to follow, having amassed over two decades of tips and tricks from industry professionals, including Pat McGrath. Blending, layering and mixing her color palette, Elson uses a few brushes, preferring to use her fingers to apply makeup, as McGrath taught her. “You don’t have to look like you’ve been too busy,” Elson clarifies. “So it seems more lived in, as if it were a second skin.”
