On the occasion of Black History Month 2021, Apple celebrates Black culture, people and history with a special collection linked to the new smartwatch of the brand. The capsule, renamed Black Unity Collection, includes a limited edition Apple Watch Series 6, a sport strap and a custom dial.
As part of this initiative, Apple supports six organizations globally committed to ensuring equality and civil rights for the Black community in the United States and around the world: Black Lives Matter Support Fund through the Tides Foundation; European Network Against Racism, International Institute on Race, Equality and Human Rights; Leadership Conference Education Fund; NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, Inc .; and Souls Grown Deep.
Members of the black creative community and supporters across Apple teamed up to create an Apple Watch sport band and watch face that honored the struggle for racial justice. The Black Unity Collection pays homage to the rich tradition and craftsmanship in fabrics of the black community and celebrates the colors of the Pan-African flag: red, which represents the blood that unites the peoples of the African diaspora and which was shed for their liberation, black, which represents the peoples whose existence is affirmed by the flag, and green, which represents the vibrant natural wealth of Africa , the motherland.
The Black Unity sport strap is made from single pieces of colored fluoroelastomer, which are assembled by hand and compression molded in one piece. Inspired by the call to action of historical and current movements, the Black Unity Sport Band strap has the inscription “Truth. Power. Solidarity. “ laser engraved inside the steel fixing pin.
The face of the Unity watch creates an ever-changing pattern that dynamically changes as the Apple Watch moves. Also, Apple Watch users can join a new one Unity Activity Challenge and earn the limited-edition virtual medal by closing the movement ring for seven consecutive days in February.
Apple Watch Series 6 Black Unity and the Black Unity Sport Band will be available starting February 1st, and the Unity watch face will be available as part of the watchOS 7.3 update coming later today.
