Contemporary art in Bologna

Art Fair it should have been held these days in Bologna (read what he told the director Simone Menegoi, just a year ago: for months it has been known that the 2021 edition would not have taken place and the idea of creating one digital fair as others have done (Art Basel right away and more recently also Wopart) did not seem appropriate.

Better to propose something new: a kind of wishlist, rather a Playlist which from today until January 24 will relaunch “the favorites” of Arte Fiera, as if it were a gift and a tribute to his audience, to artlovers who have followed it for years (this year would have been the 45th edition), to gallery owners, collectors, artists who have alternated over the years.

No virtual tour between gallery stands, but a rich platform which proposes a wider cultural project, able to range from art exhibitions to books to music, to design thanks to the selection – la playlist, in fact – of various guests. Waiting to welcome visitors again in January 2022, Arte Fiera opens its doors, with free and open access, and invites art lovers to discover the various “hitWhich he placed in the standings.

“We wanted to emphasize the cultural offer that even a trade fair like ours offers at each edition: online there will be debates, documentaries on art, exhibitions. This does not mean that we leave out the galleries, our main interlocutors. A section of Playlist Transversal visions on art which focuses on exhibits physically set up in their exhibition spaces, whose accessibility has suffered greatly from the restrictions of the last year. It is a way to emphasize the importance of the work of the galleries, but also to reiterate that art, whenever possible, must be seen from lifeHe explains Simone Menegoi, artistic director of Arte Fiera.

How to blame him? After almost a year of “digital cultural indigestion” there is a strong desire to return to face-to-face with artists and creatives (for now, exhibitions, museums and cultural spaces are open only in the yellow regions and only from Monday to Friday, a recent choice criticized by many, such as love us the Association of Contemporary Art Museums).

They participate in the project Playlist of Arte Fiera all the galleries present last year and other prestigious ones such as Gio Marconi, Massimo and Francesca Minini, Continue, Raffaella Cortese, Franco Noero.

Up Playlist there is also a selection of the Cineteca di Bologna Foundation which, from its archive of over 46 thousand titles, has found some goodies for 360 ° visions of art: between feature films visible for free in streaming at the times indicated, we report Emilio Vedova. On the side of the shipwreck, by Tommaso Pessina, an investigation into the artist’s visionary sign painting, 15 years after his death.

You don’t have much time, but does the project intrigue you? Go straight in this section by title Zig zag between the works, a walk in the company of the artist Stefano Arienti who for the occasion has selected the pieces on display from the MAMbo collection, the Museum of Modern Art in Bologna, that he likes best. You will find pictures of the works (well zoomable, and this is the real advantage of digital use: the feeling of really entering the works) and a short comment. It’s an original guide (funny this comparison Head to head, between Keith Haring is Mimmo Paladino) and allows you to get to know the MAMbo museum, one of the jewels of Bologna.
