1. Color block
Halpern, Tom Ford, Chromat
Rejoice! Our annus horribilis it’s over, it’s time to celebrate. Erase the darkness of 2020 light up with bright colors worn strategically. There were bright green and mauve notes from both Halpern and Gareth Pugh, dark pink from Tom Ford, and yellow and turquoise from Chromat.
2. Orange is the new black
Versace, Dries Van Noten, Louis Vuitton
Pantone will also have declared ultimate gray and yellow illuminating like the colors of 2021, but we support the cause ofvitamin orange. Take the mandarin lips seen from Versace, the orange hairpins by Dries Van Noten, the peach color by Louis Vuitton and the soft orange shades by Burberry created by the make-up artist Isamaya Ffrench, which among other things has started a collaboration with Byredo at the end of last year by presenting a lipstick of a bright and bright orange.
3. Strong lipstick
Vivienne Westwood, Molly Goddard
In times of war or adversity, sales of beauty products tend to soar, especially those of lipstick. And let’s be honest: the lips bold they can change the mood, even if hidden by one mask. Indeed, they seem even more licentious. This season, give voice to your inner Hollywood diva with a classic red lipstick, combined with a slight comma as seen from Dolce & Gabbana and by Vivienne Westwood. Or spice it up with some gloss as per Max Mara and Molly Goddard.
4. Light blue and blue eyeshadow
Bethany Williams, Charlotte Knowles, Tomo Kuizumi
Outside the old and inside the blue. The effect Euphoria was still going strong at the Spring Summer 2021 fashion shows. Take electric blue eyelids from for example Maria Cornejo and Bethany Williams, indigo lashes from Charlotte Knowles, ice lips from Bora Aksu or aquamarine shades from Tomo Koizumi.
5. Hair accessories
Maison Margiela, Simone Rocha, Chanel
Flowers for spring? Revolutionaries, especially when artfully arranged in your hair as it was done by Rodarte is Maison Margiela. Elsewhere there were floral turbans, at Dolce & Gabbana, hair clips bijou with maxi bow, from Giambattista Valli, elegant net veils from Chanel, pearls from Simone Rocha and crystals from Acne.
6. The benefits of long (but also short) bangs
If you’ve been thinking about getting bangs, this is the right time. If not, let us convince you. Jane Birkin, Jean Shrimpton, Brigitte Bardot, nothing is more iconic than a signature fringe. It was the hair trend featured at the Spring Summer 2021 shows. There was the disheveled French girl style fringe from Hermès; the short bangs (think of The chess queen) by Balenciaga and Valentino; and thick and very long versions from MM6, Prada and Paco Rabanne.
7. Luminous skin
Marni, Etro, Victoria Beckham
With the pandemic and vaccinations just starting, good health has never been a priority like today. Think of naked look faces, glowing skin, light makeup and a fundamental bright complexion. Imitate Paloma Elsesser from Marni and Anna Ewers from Etro, or the girls seen by Victoria Beckham, Supriya Lele, Burberry and Rodarte, and you start having it again by looking like the picture of health. Strengthen your routine skincare and nourish the body because in 2021 the beauty that comes from within will count.
8. Graphic eye makeup
With masks and faces covered the new standard, no wonder that the eyes are becoming the place of self-expression. And it’s mostly a return to black. Look at the melancholy eyes lined with kajal by Batsheva, Alice + Olivia, Dior and Giambattista Valli, and the look by Cleopatra of girls from Valentino. For more alternatives soft, consider Lucia Pica’s smoky gray matte eyeshadows at Chanel and Rosetta Getty.
9. Do-it-yourself colors? Yes but extreme
Valentino, Christian Cowan, Matty Bovan
DIY bright color dyes: was the look of the lockdown and is set to continue in 2021, only now it is more extreme. Check out Gareth Pugh’s lime green razor cuts, Valentino’s mint green hair, ai mohawk fluorescent by Christian Cowan, and dark pink by Matty Bovan.
